I have written a code calling calling RSyntaxTextArea and autocomplete. When the user enters function, the word will be replaces with function<>. I want to highlight the word "label" in the below code, so that the user knows they have to enter a name.

provider.addCompletion(new ShorthandCompletion(provider, "function", "function<Label>","function<Label>"));

The code basically replaces function with function and moves on instead of highlighting label and waiting for the user to enter something. How can I do this?


There is a TemplateCompletion class that you could use instead of ShorthandCompletion. Unfortunately this did not seem to work for me (tried it in the AutoCompleteDemo example).

Alternative approach is to use a CodeTemplateManager and extend the CodeTemplate. Below is an example (comes from CodeTemplateDemo).

First extend AbstractCodeTemplate:

And then add it to the CodeTemplateManager:

If you type "sout" and hit ctrl+shift+space it will expand to System.out.println(<replaceme>); and the <replaceme> part will be selected so you can type over it.
