I got XMLRPC server/client from python website. When I run simple methods like pow(),add(),div() from Windows, the client gets the result correctly. However, when I run brocade() which gets the configuration information from Brocade switch using python modules(PyCrypto, Paramiko), and returns the string output as return value which takes a little like 2-3 seconds (it might take longer depending on the switch command). I observed that the server executes correctly and prints the output, but the client gets a message like below.

XMLRPC does not technically allow null values, and when you try to serialize a None, it correctly tells you that it can't. Many xmlrpc services violate this detail and send them anyway, in a way that is commonly understood. To enable this behaviour in python, pass allow_none=True to the constructor for SimpleXMLRPCServer() in your server code or ServerProxy() in clients.

  • @ToekenMacGuy When I used 'allow_none' keyword, it returns 'None' right away while the server is still running the execution of getting switch version information. How can I get this information back from the client then? – spark Mar 19 '13 at 21:10
