Question

I have a web application in the following environment.

Spring 3.2.2
Spring Security 3.2.0
JPA 2.0
JSF 2.1.9

I have added the following libraries related to Spring security to the classpath.

spring-security-core-3.2.0.M1.jar
spring-security-config-3.2.0.M1.jar
spring-security-web-3.2.0.M1.jar

The spring-security.xml file looks like the following.

With this configurations, I get the following exception.

The Spring security works fine, when the following lines of XML is omitted.

It happens, when a protected method in a Spring bean is attempted to invoke from a JSF managed bean something like the following.

@Controller
@ManagedBean
@RequestScoped
public final class StateManagedBean extends LazyDataModel<StateTable>
{
    @Autowired
    private StateService stateService;

    @Autowired
    private SharableService sharableService;

    public StateManagedBean()
    {
        list=null;
        stateService=null;
    }

    @PostConstruct
    public void init()
    {
        countries=sharableService.getCountryList(); //Causes the exception.     
    }

    //The rest of the managed bean.
}

This was previously occurred to me with a Spring application when I attempted to invoke a protected method from within a non controller class (not annotated with @Controller) like ApplicationListener<AuthenticationSuccessEvent>.

This issue hasn't yet been solved. Therefore, I don't have any precise idea about why this exception occurs.

In your application-context.xml, this

<bean id="dataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean" lazy-init="true">
    <property name="dataSource" ref="dataSourceJNDI" />
</bean>

is wrong. The class JndiObjectFactoryBean does not have a field called dataSource. The above bean declaration is therefore wrong.

What you would need to do is put it as

<bean id="dataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean">
    <property name="jndiName" value="java:comp/env/jdbc/social_networking"/>
</bean>

But you already have

<jee:jndi-lookup jndi-name="jdbc/social_networking" id="dataSourceJNDI" lookup-on-startup="false" proxy-interface="javax.sql.DataSource" cache="true" resource-ref="true" />

which is kind of redundant since they would both return the same object.

Just change the above's id to whatever bean name you want for your DataSource.

I made these changes and the exception stacktrace has trimmed. The exception about dataSource has vanished but the exception about the authentication is still there - org.springframework.security.authentication.AuthenticationCredentialsNotFoundException: An Authentication object was not found in the SecurityContext. @Tiny I don't Spring security at all. Does that happen at start up or when you try to access something? I would recommend reviewing security context configurations.

This happens on start up, when the application context is being initialized (when I try to save changes, deploy on save is enabled). This happened to me in my previous three applications. I carefully looked into this error in the initial stage of these applications but I couldn't find a single clue about it.

The problem was that the init() method annotated by @PostConstruct in the JSF managed bean is invoked as soon as the JSF managed bean is loaded. Hence, the authentication is not available at that time. The authentication is made only when a user is logged in. This worked, when I removed @PostConstruct over the init() method. This could be a next question later. Thank you.
