I'm trying to install a fresh version of Ruby 2.0.0, via rvm install 2.0.0.

The installation fails with the following error:

What should I do?

I've uninstalled Xcode 5 Developer Preview 3 by simply throwing it into the trash and emptying it.

It's obvious that GCC could not be located.

When I type gcc -v, I get the following:

Xcode 4 is installed properly with Command Line Tools. What should I do to make the system see Xcode 4's GCC?

  • Append the output of rvm info to your question. It sounds like RVM is confused or your path isn't right. – the Tin Man Jul 15 '13 at 4:58
  • You have to update rvm, I got similar issue when trying to install ruby 2.0 with old rvm. So update rvm and then you will be able to install ruby 2.0. – uday Jul 15 '13 at 6:25

It could be unrelated but it seems you are using Xcode 5 => checking Xcode location... /Applications/Xcode5-DP.app/Contents/Developer this is not yet released development/testing version which most likely should be used only with OSX 10.9 - which is also pre release.

Uninstall the new Xcode and command line tools and start fresh by downloading proper/release version of Xcode which is something around 4.6.3 - also you need to install again Command Line Tools from Xcode.

    still it uses the newer command line tools, check for command line tools application and remove all copies of it - then install CLT which is available for your system (not any beta). – mpapis Jul 16 '13 at 23:04

If you're on OSX, you need to install XCode, if you think it's installed, then it might be corrupt, so re-install.

If you don't have it, you can just install the Command Line Tools for XCode from

https://developer.apple.com/downloads

The latest version is "Command Line Tools (OS X Mountain Lion) for Xcode - April 2013"

Maybe this is question is a little bit obvious but is important to good answer.

/bin/sh: make: No such file or directory

The error message said that didn't find make command. Is it install your computer?

I think you are missing make and some dependencies.

  1. Run rvm implode. This will let you start over by completely removing whatever you've got from RVM. Make sure you removed .rvm directories like /Users/can/.rvm/
  2. Install make.
  3. Install bash curl git patch.
  4. Then install the Ruby dependencies:

    osx-gcc-installer libksba openssl libreadline git zlib1g libyaml libsqlite3 sqlite3 libxml2 libxslt autoconf libc6 libgdbm ncurses automake libtool bison pkg-config
    
  5. Install openjdk ant.

  6. Finally, install RVM with Ruby:

    \curl -L https://get.rvm.io | bash -s stable --ruby
