I create a new Win32 Console App as an empty project I am running Windows 7 64bit with Visual Studio 2008 C++. I am trying to get the sample code from the bottom of this article to build: http://www.ddj.com/architect/207200659

I add CUDA Build Rule v2.3.0 to the project's custom build rules. It is the only thing with a checkbox in the available rule files list

I create moveArrays.cu in the Source Files (folder/filter???)

In that file I add the following code:

When I build I get these errors:

I can compile and run the example CUDA programs that came with the SDK. I know I am missing something simple here, but what is it?


I guess you are missing to link to the correct library. Make sure you have the CUDA library added under "Configuration Properties->Linker->Input". Refer this.

    You are correct. I had to add "$(CUDA_LIB_PATH);../../common/lib" to Configuration Properties->Linker->General->Additional Libary Directories and "cudart.lib" to Configuration Properties->Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies – Mr Bell Jan 14 '10 at 3:27

    I'd been created my project previously when I wanted to make it a CUDA program and added a .cu file. Regardless the fact that I selected Cuda 5.5 at "Project -> Build Customization", the correct library that you refer to, cudart.lib cannot found in "Configuration Properties->Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies", but $(CudaToolkitLibDir) was found at "Configuration Properties->Linker->General->Additional Library Directories". – DanielTuzes Jan 20 '14 at 12:42

Two things are needed:

  1. Add CUDA path:
    Go: "Configuration Properties->Linker->General->Additional Libary Directories" and add $(CudaToolkitLibDir) to the list.

  2. Add CUDA runtime library:
    Go: "Solution Properties->Linker->Input->Additional Dependencies" and add cudart.lib to the list.
