I am trying to use this code: https://stackoverflow.com/a/14063081/1011125.

But on my iPhone 4 (iOS 7), this part let's the whole app crash:

dispatch_queue_t queue = dispatch_queue_create("cameraQueue", NULL);
[output setSampleBufferDelegate:self queue:queue];

What's wrong with this little snippet?

  • What happens if you turn on exception breakpoints? What information is in the stack trace for your crash log? – thegrinner Mar 25 '14 at 20:21
  • A breakpoint returns: queue = (dispatch_queue_t) 0x0. Well, it seems this is a bad sign.. – filou Mar 25 '14 at 20:27

    Have you tried making queue in the above an instance variable? GCD types are now managed by ARC, and I bet it's being deallocated on you as soon as you leave your setup method. Try keeping a strong reference to it outside of that method. – Brad Larson Mar 25 '14 at 20:59
  • Ok, another breakpoint (on line 2 in the example code returns 0x1700ce5b0). The point is: I don't even know if the code above is correct. Is it? Do you mean to create a @property for the queue? – filou Mar 25 '14 at 21:07
  • @filou - Either that or make it an instance variable. You need for it to hang around, which it won't do if it's defined locally within a method. If this wasn't handled by ARC, it'd be a leak anyway. – Brad Larson Mar 27 '14 at 17:04
