When I call logoff, it works. But shutdown and restart don't work. Everything looks OK. I looked at other examples on SO and else where and the code looks pretty uniform across most places. So I'm thinking it might be something other than the code.

I'm running as admin and I tried it without the force flag.

  • @rene You are mistaken. Running AS administrator, which is what I said, is running as elevated. BEING an administrator has nothing to do with what I said.

In order to be able to shutdown the computer you have to enable the SeShutdown privilege. Once this is done you can call ExitWindowEx

  • FYI while not a bug, there is unnecessary code in there. bufLength should be 0 as that's the length of the old state struct which you aren't using. Also marshalling a copy of the token privileges into a separate chunk of memory isn't necessary. You could pass in "ref tkp" instead (and change the AdjustTokenPrivileges definition as appropriate).
