I checked this question and tried using celery.contrib.rdb but after doing telnet I was sent to:

The task ends successfully so far if I remove the set_trace call, but I need to be able to debug it because I'm going to add more things. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello after 2.5 year of no answers :) I am actually debugging Celery tasks all the time and recently I have faced same errors. Usually I simply change my apply_async run command on tasks to apply (the arguments remain the same) or simply I run the task as a regular function, first checking what the input arguments looks like. rdb/pdb/ipdb will work with no problem. – mpiskore Mar 14 '17 at 12:47
