I've been searching for this answer in search engines and on here, but nothing to specifically address video capture from the Android camera app through an Intent in your own app. The capturing happens fine, I see the preview of the video, then when I press okay, it goes back to my app and shows a black VideoView. Otherwise there are no errors. But according to the Android docs, my code is exactly what they require. I am using code from their Sample on their doc page, which actually does the same thing, it's black.

I can't believe it was so simple. In the Android docs, they have one piece missing, the call of VideoView to start. This one line showed the video and immediately started to play it once the video is captured and you return to your app: mVideoView.start();. Without this line, I see the VideoView widget in my app, but black.

Here is the line in context, a chunk of code that is in my onActivityResult():
