I have a simple program (or so I naively thought) to see for myself how random 'srand' and 'rand' are (and how uniformly distributed) in a file called "main.cpp" with code:

I am trying to run the program by running the command "gcc main.cpp" in the terminal, but I get some wild compilation errors:

  • @molbdnilo shouldn't make a difference with all-at-once compilation, only if you use gcc -c followed by gcc *.o does it not know it needs the C++ libs. – o11c Jun 26 '15 at 22:43
  • @o11c On OS X, "gcc" is actually clang, and doesn't do that. – molbdnilo Jun 26 '15 at 22:53

Probably your compiler driver is gcc instead of g++. gcc might recognize the code is in C++ but won't link against the C++ standard library by default. In Mac gcc is actually clang and g++ is clang++, AFAIK the only difference between clang and clang++ is that the former does not load the C++ standard library.
