I am trying to make a wheel picker like this I have tried downloading this project but the only files included in the .zip download are wheel-demo.apk and notes.txt. Notes.txt does not have any instructions on how to use this file with android studio. I found a post that suggested using ListViews to create the same effect. Rather than making my own I spent another day searching the internet and I found source code here but when I imported the files into my project the IDE showed dozens of errors. Through trial and error I managed to fix all but 3 errors. Pretty sure I have put the relevant code below
MainActivity.java:

All 3 of the .java files have been added to the import list in MainActivity thinking it might solve the issue, it didn't. Thank you for the advice so far.

  • What do you mean by that way? the code in the post is as far as I got before running into the scrolling issue I mentioned. Android studio could not import anything from the files I extracted from the .zip I downloaded.

  • You can export the whole project at code.google.com/p/android-wheel to GitHub using the "Export to Github" button. This makes it easy to then import into Android Studio.

You can just use the default NumberPicker included in Android since API 11. You can display any Strings you want by using NumberPicker#setDisplayedValues.

XML:

  • Thank you for providing some code, I will attempt to work this into the project. One thing though, some of it looks like it depends on imported code. I couldn't get the wheel-demo project I downloaded to work, hopefully this code does not depend on that project.

  • There were a lot of "could not resolve symbol 'random symbol'" I assumed it was due to not having the wheel picker imported properly into the project. found this tutorial tolkianaa.blogspot.mx/2012/03/do-not-try-to-reinvent-wheel.html. Was no help in getting the right files imported into my Android Studio project.

  • ok, finally got the wheel from GitHub worked into my project and all but one line in the top code box works. the line: wheel.setAdapter(new ArrayWheelAdapter<String>(wheelMenu1)); been looking through my project for hours now and I can't spot why this one line of code is showing IDE errors
