I am using the following client SSLSocketFactory code to send a text and then eventually a .wav file to my server who is listening, however this code is giving me two errors.

These two lines are giving me errors:

SSLSocketFactory socketFactory = new SSLSocketFactory(ks);

This is saying that SSLSocketFactory is abstract and cannot be instantiated.

socketFactory.setHostnameVerifier(SSLSocketFactory.ALLOW_ALL_HOSTNAME_VERIFIER);

For this the error is that is cannot resolve method setHostnameVerifier and cannot resolve symbol ALLOW_ALL_HOSTNAME_VERIFIER.

The above two problems I have fixed but I am having this error output :

  • This is not a send issue. These are compilation errors. Nothing to do with ssl-certificate either.

SSLSocketFactory is abstract so you have to use one of its children. You can use SSLSocketFactory.getDefault() to get the default implementation.

setHostnameVerifier() is a method of HttpsURLConnection not SSLSocketFactory. You should use it in that part of the code.

If you are not using HttpsURLConnection, you can and should verify the URL like this:

You've either just invented the constructor new SSLSocketFactory(KeyStore) and the method SSSLSocketFactory.setHostnameVerifier(), or else you've imported the wrong SSLSocketFactory.

  • how do I check whether I have imported the wrong or the right one ? I imported this : import javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException; import javax.net.ssl.SSLSession; import javax.net.ssl.SSLSocket; import javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory;

  • Ok instead of using those imports, I used import org.apache.http.conn.ssl.SSLSocketFactory; and the errors are gone, however, when I try to send a text, I get this error : W/System.err: java.net.SocketException: socket failed: EACCES (Permission denied)

  • I have no idea which one you intended to import. Only you can answer that. The one you have imported doesn't have either that constructor or that method.
