I am working on a Video making app.
In that I need to record a video in first View and after that display in second View.
For recording a video I followed this tutorial. In that I have made some changes as per my need in didFinishRecordingToOutputFileAtURL method.

Here is my updated method.

But here Is the issue.
Video is not being recorded exactly shown in preview. See these 2 screenShots.

    Your video recording view seems larger than your screen size i think so it's hide some portion from every side during recording! May 13, 2016 at 10:17
  • may be possible reason, cause I'm testing on iPad (4:3) and video resolution i'm giving 1280*720(16:9).... May 13, 2016 at 10:26
  • Tested on 5s, not facing this issue. So this could be solve in iPad as suggested by Vladimir K May 13, 2016 at 10:51

The reason is because your iPad screen aspect ratio is not the same as camera aspect ratio.

You can modify camera preview size by setting videoGravity property of AVCaptureVideoPreviewLayer, which influences how content is viewed relative to the layer bounds:

layer.videoGravity = AVLayerVideoGravityResizeAspect;

But in that case preview won't be fullscreen.

If you want the video with the same aspect ratio as on preview fullscreen, you will have to crop it. Cropping process explained here:

  • I need to set AVLayerVideoGravityResizeAspectFill cause If I set AVLayerVideoGravityResizeAspect then my 1:1 preview is also going to display as 16:9. BTW thanks for your kind help.... May 13, 2016 at 10:58
  • No problem :) By the way, the standard Apple camera app on iPad, will record video bigger than in preview too. So I don't think you should modify a video.

  • Yes, I'm not going to modify a video, But instead of that I'm thinking I'll set for iPad and 4s if 1:1 then aspactfill else aspact. May 13, 2016 at 11:23
