I'm having problems with null pointer exception on this specific function

            sql="SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM SalesCodeA UNION ALL SELECT * FROM SalesCodeB UNION ALL SELECT * FROM SalesCodeC ) t WHERE t.EmployeeCode='C'";

on the line switch(employeeCode) I'm getting a null pointer exception. but employeeCode isn't null on my other functions, employeeCode works fine on my sqlInsert() function

I can input data on my database, but I can't retrieve them for display because it's triggering a NPE on my sqlQuery() function.

This is where I call the GetAllRecords function

  • we are missing information to be able to see the problem, but mainly you need to make sure you call setEmployeeCode() before calling getAllRecords() – Henri Lapierre Sep 12 '16 at 5:20

setEmployeeCode() is missing in your code.

EmployeeBean employee = new EmployeeBean(); employee.setEmployeeCode("yourEmployeeCode");

First set EmployeeCode to bean and then call getAllRecords() method.

I don't see where you call setEmployeeCode() you should do something like

EmployeeBean employeeBeen = new EmployeeBean();
employeeBeen.setEmployeeCode("yourEmployeeCode");
ResultSet records = employeeBeen.getAllRecords(connection);

UPDATE: try this:

EmployeeBean employeeBeen = new EmployeeBean();
void yourSetterGetter(){
     employeeBeen.setEmployeeCode("yourEmployeeCode");
}
void doPost(){
     ResultSet records = employeeBeen.getAllRecords(connection);
}

  • @Renzz the way you are doing this is wrong you most create an instances of EmployeeBean then use it for setEmployeeCode() and getAllRecords() – alireza Sep 12 '16 at 7:52
