Let's say I've already created the arrays in mips, then,

This is how I tried translating the two lines of C++ into mips,

add $t4, $s1, $t3  # Get x[temp] and store it in $t4

blt     $s0, $s6, for # (for i < 6)

However when I run this on qtspim (when combined with the full code) the output I end up getting is

0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Instead of

0 73 0 47 0 0 23 0 0 26

Which is what I sould be getting... What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • Print the assembly language listing, that the compiler generates, for your loop code. Compare to your assembly language. – Thomas Matthews Sep 26 '16 at 22:55
  • sw $t1, ($t3) isn't this storing value in $t1 to address pointed by $t3? (and you didn't set $t3, so it can point to any where) (I don't know mips, so I'm just guessing). I think after you do add $t1,..., you have address of pos[i] in t1, and you have to load the content from the memory, probably something like lw $t5,($t1), then $t5 is value equal to the "temp" in C code (again I'm just guessing, verify everything, ideally in debugger). Judging from this, maybe you should go instruction after instruction and verify they do what you want (probably not). – Ped7g Sep 27 '16 at 10:49

You had some of the basic structure correct and had good comments.

But, there were some bugs with unitialized values, using the wrong register and not actually fetching from memory. Also, index values must be converted to byte offsets.

I've produced two versions of your program. A version with annotations for the bugs. And, a cleaned up and working version.
