1

I have a class that displays some data values that belongs to a custom object passed through an intent from the main class. When I change the orientation everything changes fine since it just goes back to the intent for the class.

However, the user is able to edit the object and return to the class with the changes visible. When you change the orientation after having edited the object, it reverts back to the original intent.

I've tried creating an onSaveInstanceState as well as an onRestoreInstanceState to prevent the calling of the first intent, but it's not working well.

  • I have seen that you have three activities, please can you explain the purpose of each one: RecipeTextView, EditRecipe, RecipeList. Oct 22 '16 at 23:24
  • RecipeTextView displays one recipe and all of it's values (if they exist) using text views. EditRecipe allows the user to edit a recipe they created. And RecipeList creates a recycler view containing all of the recipes a user creates.

So I actually managed to figure out how to fix this one. I completely got rid of the onRestoreInstanceState method and instead edited the onCreate slightly. Here is the updated code:

So instead of calling loadActivity from onRestore I just over ride the value of my Recipe object and call loadActivity the same as before. I also changed the name of the local variable in loadActivity to avoid confusion (for myself mostly).
