how do i read count how many times each "type" and "key" occurs in a json file with data like below

Use the following approach, the keys and types hold the number of times each key and type occurs. good luck.

from collections import defaultdict
keys,types = defaultdict(int), defaultdict(int)
for jline in yourjsonfile.readlines():
    line=json.loads(jline)
    keys[line['key']] += 1
    types[line['type']] += 1
  • You're duplicating code and paying the price for it: you forgot a +1 at the end. But also it's completely wrong because you reassigned keys from a dictionary to a number. And you forgot to parse the JSON. You should really test this kind of code before posting. – Alex Hall Nov 17 '16 at 18:55
