I'm trying to make an application that can search through a collection of names and return ones the come close to the one that you searched for. Example : jos is searched and jose,josie and josh are all returned in a JList.

here's my code which i'm using as a prototype :

Create an implementation of the Levenshtein distance formula, as your loop through your list, assign a distance value to each one and return the lowest n values.

You can read find() method in detail . Find () finds out the substring in the given array of string for reference see the sample :

 1:Pattern.compile("[a-z]");
 2:Pattern.matcher("0a1b1c3d4"); 
 3:int count = 0; 
 4:while(matcher.find())
 { 
 5:count++;
 }
