I'm having trouble figuring out how many digits I need for the input. When I step through the code I can find 9 nodes, but I still can't figure out the format. And just in general what is really going on. I can see that it is looping and checking each node but I can't tell what it is comparing it with because it doesn't appear to just the node itself.

I also found this strange because I thought the final number that shows up should be a pointer to the next node but they are all just 0?

  • When you think it is a pointer, you cannot just expect one byte (which is likely to be zero if it is the last byte when it is a pointer). You can either dump more than 3 byte. Or you could use another unit, for example x/3w. Check delorie.com/gnu/docs/gdb/gdb_56.html. – overseas Feb 4 '17 at 15:08
