I have some Pojos with some properties that I'm trying to restrict with the JsonView annotation. But when I fail to annotate a spring endpoint with @JsonView, the properties with the @JsonView are automatically included in the serialization. Here's my Pojo:

Here's the controller with th Regular class commented out (the @JsonView annotation filters out the Pojos annotated variables when this is used):

Is the default behavior by Spring / Jackson to include these fields? If this is the case, isn't this error prone since an annotation has to be used on every endpoint?

Yes, this is the default behavior. To turn it off, you can add this to your application properties:

spring.jackson.mapper.default-view-inclusion=false
