I am trying to change the order of the facets from BA, SLG to SLG, BA. I have found questions similar to this but I think my solution might not be working because I have summarized the data in excel; Therefore, my data frame might be different. Anyways, I tried implementing this to no avail:

Any help fixing this issue would be much appreciated.

    After dfx <- gather(df, group, data, SLG, BA) do dfx$group = factor(dfx$group, levels=c("SLG","BA")).

  • Ok, in the examples I saw, group in their case would be the variable name (SLG), but I suppose in the case where I already have the summary statistics, I just use group.

    Use the name of the variable for which you want to set the order of the factor levels. In this case it happens to be group.

As you only have two factor levels you can use forcats::fct_rev() within your ggplot code (no need to load forcats if you have tidyverse already loaded).

facet_grid( ~ fct_rev(group), scale = "free")

There are many great solutions on this page.

This suggestion builds on those with a nuance. Depending on (1) whether or not you want to change the underlying data (which is generally just fine, and often easier in general when also imputing/modeling, etc.) and (2) personal preference, you can also handle this easily within the ggplot facet_grid() itself.

# Factorize variable prior to plotting (from baptiste)
dx$group <- factor(dfx$group, levels = c("SLG", "BA"))

# Within the ggplot
# Update this code
facet_grid(~group, scale = "free")
# With this code
facet_grid(~factor(group, levels = c("SLG", "BA"), scale = "free")

I often handle it this way when I don't want to change the underlying data.
