I extended the example given in azure github repo to get samples of my Virtual machine running on MS Azure. If I don't give any parameter for filtering, it returns metric values for CPU percentage. Now If I give any value for filtering, it doesn't consider it and still returns samples only for CPU percentage only. I am following this for getting results. This is the ruby code I am using. Please check once

It seems a simple GET request, try setting filter as the following

filter = "&name=#{val['name']['value']}"

OR

filter = "&name.value=#{val['name']['value']}"

  • how about enclosing them in square brackets in both cases like "[&name.value=#{val['name']['value']}]" and "[&name=#{val['name']['value']}"]` Jun 14, 2017 at 5:20
  • The documentation wasn't clearly explained. This (learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/monitoring-and-diagnostics/…) blog explained it well. A $filter key was required and now it seems to return some other error (which probably can be rectified)

The metric API version you are using is for accessing metrics that come through the Azure Monitor pipeline -- you can see that full list here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/monitoring-and-diagnostics/monitoring-supported-metrics

For other VM metrics, you need to install the agent and use the table storage API to access the data: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/monitoring-and-diagnostics/azure-diagnostics
