As far as I know , apple native framework doesn't have APIs for converting voice to text and we have to go for third party framework to do that and it has so many drawbacks like user has to microphone to convert from voice to text.

But I can find lots of information for converting text to voice but not the other way

Couldn't find any clear information about this and mostly it has so many uncertain things.

If someone could shed some light it'd be really great !

For Objective C, I wrote a Speech Converter class a while back to convert voice to text.

Step 1: Create A Speech Convertor class

  1. Create a new Cocoa Class and subclass it from NSObject.
  2. Name it let's say ATSpeechRecognizer.

Step 2: Set up the ATSpeechRecognizer Class in your VC

Import ATSpeechRecognizer in your View Controller and set up the delegate like this:

  • @Shiva ATSpeechRecognizer is just what I named the class. Aegon Targaryen is my alias on internet mostly. So AT. Main thing is SFSpeechRecognizer, the engine behind. It is available in iOS 10 onwards. But not in 8 – NSNoob Aug 18 '17 at 11:09
  • Thanks buddy makes sense... can you tell me how can I embed this into app in such a way that it can listen for user voice commands... I am planning to define some 20 different voice commands... when user speaks I should be able to act upon that.... I can keep this is app-delegate but continuouls running it'll will cause any memory problem or some thing ? can you please give me some broad picture on this – Shiva Aug 18 '17 at 11:21
  • @Shiva You will get the text in convertedSpeechToText:(NSString *)parsedText method. Use Parsed text to determine if it is one your 20 pre-defined commands and perform respective action. – NSNoob Aug 18 '17 at 11:26
  • @Shiva And don't keep it running continuously. It will drain your data bandwidth and memory. Instead use a button to take input from user on when does he want to give a voice command. – NSNoob Aug 18 '17 at 11:27
