I am running Fluentd in GKE to get my containers' logs in Stackdriver using my customized Fluentd configuration file.

Some logs which are json objects in the container log files at /var/log/containers/, are having text-payload at Stackdriver. I want them to show up as json-payload.

When I use the built in Fluentd agent of Stackdriver (i.e. not using my customized Fluentd config file), those logs have json-payload. What in my config file could cause this problem?

  • Are those entries longer than the other ones? We seem to experience a similar problem, but it happens only when our log entry is bigger than 8k. – Pawel Kowalak Nov 14 '17 at 10:36

There was an opened issue (48139) a couple of months ago related to fluentd-gcp parsing json payload as text to Stackdriver. It should have been fixed after the 1.6.7 release.
