I have a form, call it FrmCheck, with a Twebbrowser on it. The webbrowser does not need to be shown but I an using it (instead of Indy or dynamically creating the Twebbrowser) for convenience. The only public function on FrmCheck is function CheckIP(TheIP:string):boolean; that navigates to a few web pages, does some processing to do with IP addresses, sets a boolean retun value and exits.

The function works correctly.

However, I've noticed that when function CheckIP is called from another form, it only returns if FrmCheck (the form containing the TWebBrowser) is showing at the time.

ie this works

Does a TWebBrowser only operate correctly when it is on a form that is being shown (even if the form is invisible), or should I be looking elsewhere for an explanation?

  • This deserves a downvote, because you are asking about how your FrmCheck behaves but have not shown any of its code. How are we readers supposd to know what if anything you do e.g. in its FormShow or FormActivate events? – MartynA Dec 7 '17 at 18:42

  • @MartynA I'm not asking about how my FrmCheck behaves! I'm simply asking if the form a Twebbrowser is on must be shown in order for the Twebbrowser to operate correctly. However since you insist I will show my code although I expect then I'll get down voted for making the question too verbose. – user2834566 Dec 7 '17 at 21:03
  • @MartynA's question to you is VERY relevant. All you showed was where you called .Show. We don't see how you instantiate FrmCheck. We don't see if there is other manipulation of the FrmCheck object instance happening before you get to calling .Show inside TestMyIPAddress(). The code pertaining to the instance of FrmCheck, as well as the form's code are necessary so we can see what the event code is doing. – Sam M Dec 7 '17 at 22:14

Call WebBrowser1.HandleNeeded; before calling Navigate.
