I am using JeditorPane and JEditorKit to display some HTML. The HTML is displaying correctly but the images show up as broken (they display properly in a browser). The image src is base64. I set the content type thus:

I'm guessing that because it contains both text and images, the content type is incorrect. If that is the case, what should it be set to? TIA.

'html' is the string containing the HTML. It was read from an html file type using IOUtils.toString. I'm probably going to have to develop an SCCE.

  • Swing's (default) HTML support does not extend to Base 64 encoded images. Jun 29, 2018 at 16:47
  • In doing some debugging I believe that the custom editor is the problem. While the string being processed has hundreds of tags, the method ViewFactory.create is only called 4 times. The values of 'kind' were: html, body, p, content. The last is odd since there is no content tag. I ran my HTML through a verifier and it passed.

  • I figured out that 'content' is referring to the text between <p> tags, et al. It is just a coincidence that I chose 'content' as my variable name. In any case the bottom line is that although there are no exceptions or errors when running, there are also no more calls to "create" after that first content tag. I am trying to write an SSCCE but I may need to start a new thread since there are other problems with that.

  • After more debugging is it possible I am running into a problem with the length of the string? The entire string is about 32K characters. However, my reading says the max length of a string is 2^31 - 1.

You can try something like below :

    Yes, There is no way to get image uri instead of saving it to the disk. But alternatively you can implement custom editor to your jEditorpane as I mentioned in my Update 2. Jun 29, 2018 at 19:02
