I am trying to map source code to object code. I am creating new constructs, building these constructs in Code Composer for Different code Optimization levels and comparing them with the source code.

The issue I am facing is, when the DSP generated the assembly code, it has inserted a couple of OR Statements for Optimization Level 2 which is hard to understand given that there are no OR statements in the construct. Appreciate any help on this. I have added Construct and 2 dissasembly files below. Thank you.

  • Did those variable names like var157_local1 come from a decompiler? IDK why anyone would write that by hand. Anyway, what DSP architecture is this? Aug 15 '18 at 23:23

    I am not gonna decipher that code, but you do have negation and && which hints at De Morgan's laws of turning (!a && !b) into !(a || b)

  • @Jester: exactly what I was thinking. The while() loop can probably be proved to run at most twice or something, so it can get fully unrolled and just calculate the output values in terms of the inputs. Aug 15 '18 at 23:26
  • Actually it's either an infinite loop, or it returns with no side-effects. gcc for x86 compiles it to just .L2: or edi, esi / je .L2 / ret godbolt.org/g/puZsNL. i.e. it's an infinite loop if both inputs are zero. Even with -fwrapv to make signed overflow defined behaviour (wraparound). clang doesn't optimize away as much, and maybe still messes around with adding stuff in registers. Aug 15 '18 at 23:39
