Trying to write a function that will count the number of odd nodes within a binary search tree, I have written this but am not sure if it is correct. If somebody could confirm that this would work or identify any errors in the code, or has a more efficient way of doing this, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

def oddNodeCount(tree):
    counter = 0
    if tree == None:
        return 0
    else:
        if tree['data']%2 != 0:
        counter += 1
        tree = addNodeCount(tree['left'])
        tree1 = addNodeCount(tree['right'])
        return tree, tree1
    return counter
