I am trying to read some keys from the generated json from REST API. We don't have pandas installed on our server so I can't go with the json_normalize and python version is 2.6.6.

I am going to read the data from a file. So, first setup would be load using json.load :

for each response, I have to pick claimId, claimeLineNo, agreementPrice, capitatedInd from [claimLineDetail]

I need to get these values and put it into csv file for further processing.. if I loop through values :

What should I do to add claimId with each line? and what would be the best way to convert above output in dictionary format so that I can use DictWriter to write these records into csv using below code..

  • why are you loading a CSV file with the json module? Alternatively, why is the file called "*.csv" when it actually contains JSON?

Simply add element['claimsHeader']['claimId'] to the print. If you want to just write the output of the loop to a file line-by-line, wrap it with file operations:

with open(outfile, 'wb') as f:
    for element in data:
        for key in element['claimsHeader']['claimLineDetail']:
            outputline = element['claimsHeader']['claimId']+" "+str(key['claimLineNo'])+" "+key['agreementPrice']+" "+key['capitatedInd']['code']+"\n"
            f.write(outputline.encode('latin-1'))
            print outputline
