I trying to write non blocking socket server with Linux and epoll.

My problem what epoll events less than connections.

Client make x connections to server port with non blocking mode(don't wait success/error/etc) , next client go to "sleep(y)", connections not send any data.

On server side i create edge triggered epoll instance with non blocking mode. before add client socket to epoll, I too set non blocking mode.

If I make 8 connections, epoll have from 2 to 8 epollin events,or on 20 connections have 12-15 events.

If i make same x connections to nginx(with debug log) I see what nginx accept all created connections.

In Wireshark I don't see any strange behavior, all connections did "sin, sin ack, ack" (like diff with nginx)

But nginx have all connections(epollin event?) , im not, why?

I'm already try set tcp_nodelay, nopush, fast tcp, listen (fd, bigBacklogValue) and this no have effect.

Any ideas why it happened?

i know c++ little enough,(maybe its bad idea learn it on this task) possibly i have errors like leak, but i want to pay attention to the error with connections(understand the error))

  • You should use EPOLLIN only for your listen socket. EPOLLET (edge triger) is not recommended. – tunglt Dec 7 at 0:55
  • @noadev You need to loop calling accept() until it fails with EWOULDBLOCK or EAGAIN since you use EPOLLET. Same goes for when you get events on any of your sockets, you need to call read()/write() in a loop intil it fails with EWOULDBLOCK/EAGAIN. As ThungLeThan also mentions, don't start using EPOLLET until you've properly learnt this stuff , getting EPOLLET right is quite hard. – nos Dec 7 at 8:50
