I am trying to write a OS from scratch without any library and stuff. So I was setting up my IDT and stuff and i finally finished it. So when I tried it it just kept restarting. I only had written the int 0x0 so i wrote the first 16 to handle whatever exception i was getting atleast to see. So what I did was to make a set_background function and give every exception a color from 0 to 15 exceptions I gave the colors of 20 to 2f (I am on mode 13h: 320x200p 256 colors) When I ran teh OS I found that my exception is the one with the 2d color code. It was a General Protection Fault which is at isr 13. I know tha when an General Protection fault is thrown it points to the instruction via eip. So I used my emulator console (qemu monitor) to get value of the instruction that threw the exception. It corresponds to adress of my fill_rect function I guess but I am not sure I couldnt even find that.

I think the fill_Rect function is the one which causes the fault

By the way the function that causes the exception is shown 83 45 f8 01 in adress 1170 ( I load my kernel at 0x1000 )

  • You have a lot wrong with inline assembly.You clobber registers but don't tell the compile. Your common stub does an iret but it in in a function that may have set up a stack frame. I'd recommend moving your ISR and IRQ routines to an assembly file. – Michael Petch Feb 16 '19 at 16:04
