Short question comes upfront - if you want to dig into the issue, you can read the long below desription (..I tried to document as thorow as possible for this complicated issue).

Short question:

Can you make a custom UICollectionViewCell change it's height dynamically (i.e. expand in height) upon a target-action from within the CollectionViewCell class ??? (i.e. not via the sizeForItemAt method of the corresponding UICollectionViewController delegate-method at the dequeueing - but rather from within the custom cell-class itself).

If yes, how ?????????

Long descriptive question (watch the video and long description with questions below...):

The below video illustrates an issue that my code still has concerning an expandable UICollectionView Cell.

The main question: Why is the CollectionView-Cell only expanding after the user scrolls all the way to the top (and not before ??) ??

As I learned (and posted in this answer), in order to create an autosizing CollectionView-Cell (i.e. autosizing its height), you have to implement two things:

  1. Make sure you pass a FlowLayout having set the estimatedItemSize property

  1. Add the preferredLayoutAttributesFitting method inside your custom UICollectionViewCell (in my example, providing the myContentHeight that keeps track of what the cell's height should be)

After 1. and 2. the cell-content expands. But unfortunately, as shown in the video above - the total CollectionView-Cell (yellow background) only expands after the user scrolls all the way to the top !

I am pretty sure that only after scrolling to the top, the preferredLayoutAttributesFitting method gets called again.

The question is: HOW DO I CAUSE THIS preferredLayoutAttributesFitting FROM BEING CALLED (i.e. other than by scrolling to the top???)

Or is there another way on causing the Cell to adjust its height ?
