I want to display a single item and it's roles in the GUI from a QAbstractItemModel. In the manual I can only find how to display the whole model.

Displaying a single item is working, but the data in the GUI isn't updated when the data in the model is changed.

The model emits dataChanged() in the setData() function.

I tried to access a single item in QML like this:

       text: dataSourceModel.data(dataSourceModel.index(88,0),259).toFixed(decimalplaces)
      }

This shows the data's role 259(valueRole), but the text isn't updated when changed.

  • why don't you use Q_PROPERTY as in Q_PROPERTY(QString name READ name WRITE setName NOTIFY nameChanged) in your DataSourceModel. Also do the same for the rest of your variables. That would create the binding for you when you access your value with data.modelData.name... – bardao Apr 15 at 23:14

  • This needs that the object is derived from Qobject. But this does not work when it's part of an model. Also the manual or examples show that the objects that are part of an model arent derived from QObject – Basti An Apr 16 at 19:24

The text is not updated because you have only copied the value but there is no binding between the components.

A possible solution is to use a Repeater next to a Loader that creates an item if the row is the one specified.

Another possible solution is to make item 88 specifically a Q_PROPERTY.

  • The solution with the repeater uses a timer and is no suited for my embedded application, because I have to update hundreds of items from the model in realtime, When using Q_PROPERTY, has this to be in the model or in the object? – Basti An Apr 16 at 7:28
