I am creating two tables, the first has a serial number, and the second table is a filtered version of the first table and includes the original serial number as well as additional columns. I then do a left join on the first table to the second table on serial number to create a third table. When I attempt to do the same thing with CTEs so that I create 1 table as opposed to 3, the join does not work.

I successfully made the two tables as CTEs instead however, when I do a left join on them together to get the third table, the result is incorrect.

I expect the CTE method to give the same result as above however it returns a different result (the joins are not happening correctly)

  • in the situation where I write the code with 3 tables instead of CTEs I always use int for serial. Is the problem you described specific to the CTEs and that a data type is not set? – Harry Barsegyan May 16 at 6:01
