It seems to mostly work. After enabling the camera video with the browser, the video displays, and the capture put the capture into the canvas, but I would like to also have the option of using the canvas image. I put a ???? to where I would like to somehow substitute the captured image for the file source in the input with type = "file", if that is possible programmatically without saving the captured image to disk.

I did a little more poking around, and it seems like the easiest way is to either let the user choose a local file, or use the captured image in a POST as a Base64encoded datatype, and then on the server page detect whether or not a file was posted of if the encoded Base64 encoded image was posted. I am putting up more of the code that I have.

On the server side there is some code that originally was just written for a file submission. Modified it a little so that if a Base64encoded image is submitted, then it called the generateImage function, which writes the Base64 decoded image to a temp.png in the avatars folder, and then just returns that to the createAvatar function. I am using the "Huge" framework on Github, so I am having make some modifications. Not really sure how to determine whether the image is a .png, a .jpg, .gif, etc., but it seems to work with a Mac webcam.
