I'm writing a driver for petalinux, but I've some problems with an v4l2 ioctl function, in particolar with ioctl(fd, VIDIOC_STREAMON, &type). When I call streamon it sometimes goes correctly other times I get this error:

Segmentation fault

I tried to call VIDIOC_STREAMON four times:

  • first: error
  • second: ok
  • third: ok
  • fourth: error

If I test again I get a different result. Is the error related to something in my driver or to the kernel ?

This is my streamon function, but I get the error also when all the code inside vidioc_streamon is commented

  • "Is the error related to something in my driver or to the kernel?" - The error message just says that "Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference" occured. Like any other error message, it doesn't contain information whether your driver is responsible for the error or not. Assuming the error doesn't hit without loading of your driver, the driver could be perfectly be a reason. We need to see its code (in form of minimal reproducible example) for make a conclusion. Without the code your question has a little sense.

  • Using the previous version of petalinux (kernel 4.14) I didn't get errors, with the new one (with kernel 4.19) I get that problem
