We have a script that issues web requests using Invoke-WebRequest and Invoke-RestMethod. It also uses ConvertFrom-Json, ConvertTo-Json, and [System.Net.ServicePointManager]::CertificatePolicy to handle secure connections.

Apart from that, there is one function and one class.

The script works fine on several machines, but crashes with the following message right at the start:

The given assembly name or codebase was invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131047)

We tried extracting more info using this command:

But the output was empty.

It appears that the Powershell crashes when defining its own types, but the Powershell version and the .NET version seems up to date and perfectly aligned with those on the working machines:

What are we doing wrong, and how do we know what Powershell has issues with?

  • @js2010: parameters. The next block is the function definition. Then there's an if statement, which worked on that machine. I'll add it to the details, but we obviously looked there. – Vadim Berman Jan 13 at 6:14

    That HResult is from the universal runtime but that doesn't help you one bit. If you haven't tried it yet, I'd start by commenting out code to identify exactly what is giving you issues. First guess would have been the Add-Type but you seem to already have excluded that. – Lieven Keersmaekers Jan 13 at 11:05
  • Do all machines have the same PowerShell version? (I believe Invoke-RestMethod is available as of version 3.0) – Theo Jan 13 at 14:00
