I'm trying to make something like this 2 rows of 4 squares , and a rectangle on every middle of 2 squares.

My current code:

I tried to do a rectangle class :

But I can't find the way to position the rectangle in the middle of 2 squares. Any help here?

Instead of putting four rectangles along each border, create two per box with ::before and ::after, and push them to the border of their respective box:

  • Thanks for the solution! Quick question, if i want it to be responsive , i change to .grid {width: 50%;} , how do I make the height same as the width to make it always be a square?

  • @hatched make height and width both 50vw (viewport width). You'll have to set them to box-sizing: border-box and remove the body margin as well. See my edit
