I am currently working on converting an existing application consisting of an Angular 9 frontend talking to Asp.Net MVC/Web API/Identity backend. I am converting the .Net to .Net Core 2.2. The backend uses both cookies and JWT authentication and authorization. I am moving to OpenId Dict/Identity and OpenId Connect. Thankfully, I created a standalone project to test a solution, because it has been trial and a lot of errors. I am woefully lacking in understanding of OpenId Dict/Connect.

I need help with creating a valid bearer token. A token that yields a validated user.

And using a breakpoint, I check the User.Identity and the IsAuthenticated is false and Name is null. I am using WebApp2-TestAuth.pfx certificate that I generated. This is the startup method, but I put the guts of in a separate static class.

The AuthorizationController was taken from the OpenIddict-core version 2.0.1 Mvc.Server sample. I changed the CreateTicketAsync, so it is as follows:

  • It seems that in the OpenIDDict configuration you expect a JWT (.AddJwtBearer(...), but the token you get from the server is not a JWT. Not sure where did you get it wrong, but this is something to look for - either make the server issue a JWT for authentication, or change the configuration of OpenIDDict so that it accepts the type of token you get from the server.     Sorry: I am guessing you are correct. I moved on to other projects, but recently reimplemented this as Core 5 using Swagger. I got the two authentication schemes working and am about ready to work on the making changes to the Angular 13 frontend.
