Basically I'm trying to do a pseudo generative poster that swaps between 3 artworks that I have predesigned. The idea is to make load one artpiece, wait a few seconds then reverse (essentially wipe it away) the drawing to a blank canvas then load the next and repeat endlessly.

There's no automatic way to rewind an animation like this. You could do something very memory intensive such as saving every frame of the animation as an image and then playing the whole thing backward, but this would use a lot of memory. Instead you can just reverse the logic that animates the various shapes:

I stripped down the code and had to fiddle with a few bugs to make this work. Hopefully the basic concept is clear.

  • Thanks, this made my first two scenes work perfectly. I actually have one more question, cause when I tried implementing this to the last beach scene, the masks don't actually get reversed. Line 127 to reverse the mask totally doesn't get called at all, which I can't figure out why. When I print the value of the mask, it says it's 780 and doesn't subtract any further to hit the required 300 in the parameter. Here is the link: editor.p5js.org/theruantan/sketches/8g583LF8j

  • I believe you were just using the wrong variable name on line 110. You had animating = true; where you should have beachAnimate = true; Nov 2 '21 at 9:28
